The Foil Backup function is used any time the foil needs to be loose when hot stamping head moves down to print. If you are printing down into a pocket or below flush.  Backing up the foil to make it loose will allow it to be pushed into the pocket by the stamping head will make printing possible.  Loosing the foil also causes a delay in the foil striping action when the stamping head starts back up.

The foil backup system helps when printing Polypropylene and Polyethylene  plastics.  The loosing of the foil helps with the foil strip delay.
